Struggling to Make Character Arc Actually Work in Your Script?
Tired of understanding character theory… but not knowing how to actually execute it in your own script?
Sick of reading books and resources that explain one piece of character at a time… but never show you how it all works together on the page?
Maybe you’ve found yourself thinking:
“I know what a strong character should look like… but I don’t know how to actually write one.”
“My characters feel flat or unconvincing, even when the idea is good.”
“I keep being told to ‘show, not tell’… but no one shows me what that actually looks like in a screenplay.”
“I understand what a character arc is… but I don’t know how it plays out scene by scene.”
“I feel like I’m writing in a vacuum… just guessing and hoping it works.”
And the most frustrating part?
You’re doing everything right on paper… But it’s still not translating into compelling characters on the page.

What You’ll Learn Inside the Workshop
In this workshop, we’re going to do something most character resources don’t do. We’re not talking about theory in isolation.
Instead, we’re walking through a full screenplay together.
We’ll be using A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue & Noah Harpster) as our case study.
If you’re not familiar with it, the story follows a jaded magazine writer who’s assigned to profile Fred Rogers… and ends up learning about empathy, kindness, and decency in the process.
It’s a powerful example of character arc done well and gives us a clear lens for seeing how transformation unfolds on the page.
And we’ll break it down step by step so you can see how character arc actually works in action.
Here’s what you’ll walk away with:
A clear understanding of how character arc works and what your audience needs to see in order to stay invested
How to set up a compelling arc in Act 1 so the transformation actually lands
What character development looks like scene by scene in Act 2 (not just in theory)
How character arc is proven and paid off in Act 3
How to introduce and establish a character in a way that supports the arc from the very beginning
What it really looks like to “show, not tell” through behavior, dialogue, and action
It’s a chance to see the whole system working together… so you can finally apply it to your own scripts with confidence.

👩🏻🏫
Meet your host
Hi, I’m Naomi, a screenwriting teacher and story consultant with 10+ years of experience helping screenwriters, producers, and directors develop their projects.
I was part of the development team at Maverick Films (Madonna + Guy Oseary’s production company), where I worked on projects like Twilight, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, and The Stanford Prison Experiment.
I also worked with Blake Snyder on his second Save the Cat! book and taught Save the Cat! workshops in Los Angeles.
Today, I help writers get unstuck and build scripts they’re proud of using frameworks that are creative, repeatable, and actually fun to use.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of writers… and I’ve seen the same pattern come up again and again:
Writers understand the theory of character. But when it comes time to actually apply it on the page, things get unclear.
That’s exactly why I created this workshop.
